About RCA-WA
RCA-WA is dedicated to building a united, informed, and engaged Rwandan community by focusing on preserving cultural heritage while supporting the integration of Rwandan immigrants and refugees into life in the United States. Through community events, educational programs, and social initiatives, RCA-WA has been a key resource for its members, helping them navigate life in a new country while staying connected to their cultural roots.
Addressing Opioid Awareness & Prevention
One of RCA-WA’s first major initiatives is an Opioid education, prevention, and connection program, funded through a $50,000 grant from the City of Bellevue. This initiative is a response to the growing concern over opioid-related deaths in Black communities, particularly among young people. RCA-WA recognizes the urgent need for culturally tailored education and outreach to address this crisis and reduce stigma.
The program will include:
✅ Community Education Workshops in Kinyarwanda, providing translated materials and expert-led discussions
✅ Integration of opioid awareness programming into RCA-WA’s existing cultural events, such as Youth & Sports Day, Women’s Day, and the Umuganura Festival
✅ Social media outreach through WhatsApp and other community platforms to share critical information and resources
This initiative is designed to reach beyond the Rwandan community, benefiting the larger part of East African populations who share cultural and linguistic ties with RCA-WA members.
Building Stronger Communities Together
We are excited to support RCA-WA as they continue their vital work. Through this partnership, ESI aims to strengthen community-led efforts that foster cultural preservation, education, and social well-being.
We look forward to seeing RCA-WA’s impact grow and to supporting their mission as they serve their community.
